Facebook Security Tips to secure your Facebook account

Facebook Security Tips: The social network can be great for keeping people in touch. Among the social networking platforms, Facebook is the most popular. It has billions of active users that log on daily. For many people it is part of their life, they interact with friends, relatives, etc. Not only chatting people also share their photos, videos, etc on Facebook. So the security of the Facebook account is very important. Facebook provides inbuilt security features for its users. But most the users are unaware of it. This article provides some tips and tricks for boosting the security of facebook account.

  1. Set Up Login Alerts

Facebook provides a feature of Login Alerts, which send you an alert when someone logs into your account from a new device. You can get the alerts either through Facebook notification, email, or text messages. To activate login alerts follow the steps:

  1. Log in to your Facebook account
  2. Then click on the downward pointing triangle in the top right of the screen
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Tap on Security
  5. Click on Edit to the right of Login Alerts
  6. Choose where you want the alerts sent
  7. Click on Save Changes

2. Activate Two-Factor Authentication

The Two-Factor Authentication gives your account an extra level of security. As per this feature, it requesting a security code when you log in from an unknown browser. For Enabling this feature do the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Facebook account
  2. Then click on the downward pointing triangle in the top right of the screen
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Tap on Security
  5. Click on Edit to the right of Two-Factor Authentication
  6. Click on Get Started
  7. There are two options to access login code through your phone: either by text message or the Facebook app
  8. Choose your option
  9. Then click on Submit

3. Protect your Profile Picture

The profile picture is used as the primary tool for identification on social media. Facebook provides a feature called Profile Picture Guard that protect your profile picture. For enabling this feature do the following:

  1. Log in your account
  2. Open your facebook profile
  3. Click on the current profile picture
  4. Then click on the options at the bottom of the image
  5. Select Turn on profile picture guard
  6. Now a blue shield will appear on your profile picture and no one will be able to share or download it anymore

4. Manage your Facebook data

Facebook provides a feature called Manage Your Data, through which you can get advanced control on how and where Facebook uses any of your data. You can manage your location data, control contacts uploaded to Facebook, face recognition settings, etc.

Other tips to secure your Facebook account are creating a strong password. Do not use this password anywhere else. Change the password once every six months. Do not share your Facebook password with anyone. Do not accept a friend request from people you don’t know.
