What is FASTag? FASTag is recently implemented electronic toll collection system in India. This operated by the National Highway Authority of India. It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to FASTag. Now, Fastag is mandatory for all private and commercial vehicles. We can affix the FASTag on the windscreen of our vehicle. If we have FASTag, we dont need to Stop our vehicle on toll plazas for transactions. Without FASTags, the vehicle owner needs to pay toll twice the normal rate at toll gates across the country. So Let’s know how to buy and Activate FASTag.
How To Buy FASTag
We can purchase the Fastag from official Tag issuers or participating Banks. 22 certified banks are issuing FASTag through various channels such as Point-of-Sale (POS) at National Highway toll plazas. Also, we can purchase the Tag through an e-commerce portal Amazon. FASTags do not have any expiry date, we can use it as long as they are readable at the toll plaza.

There are two activation methods are available. One is Self Activation and another one is through Certified Bank. If you purchase your FASTag online, then you can activate it via the Self Activation method.
Self Activation: Install My FASTag mobile app and submit the details of your vehicle. Then you can link any of your existing bank accounts with FASTag using this application.
The NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) also providing a Prepaid wallet facility, this also available in My FASTag mobile app. With this facility, you can add money to the wallet and get your toll fee deducted from the prepaid wallet instead of getting it directly deducted from a bank account. My FASTag mobile app is available for both Android and iOS platforms. Android users can download the My FASTag app from Play Store and iPhone users can download it through the Apple Store.
Activate FASTag by visiting the certified bank branch: If you are buying FASTag through a certified banking partner, you need to submit the KYC documents as per the KYC policy of the bank. And also you need to submit your vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) along with the application for FASTag to the bank.
